Jim Wann is a composer/lyricist and performer (Pump Boys And Dinettes, King Mackerel & The Blues Are Running) who makes connections between musicians and theatre, the South and New York, Americana and American Songbook in his original work. The new recording Jim Wann & Friends: Blue Heaven, produced by Don Dixon, features a lively ensemble of Marti Jones, Bland Simpson, Red Clay Ramblers, Tony Williamson, Rod Abernethy and more, celebrating Chapel Hill roots.
"Blue Heaven" as you may know, is a nickname for Chapel Hill and UNC, where many of us on this record first began to enjoy each other's music and form bands, including the Southern States Fidelity Choir, Red Clay Ramblers, Arrogance, and more.
The New York Times reviewed Pump Boys and Dinettes performance this summer. You can read the full article here: Review: Pump Boys and Dinettes at Encores! Off-Center by Charles Isherwood.
