KING MACKEREL & THE BLUES ARE RUNNING: Songs And Stories Of The Carolina Coast

Jim's Notes:

I performed King Mackerel for twenty years, as a member of the Coastal Cohorts (myself, Bland Simpson, and Don Dixon).  Now, with a new cd of coastally themed songs, "Wild Ponies," we Cohorts are a concert act, blending King Mackerel songs and stories with new material.  Our mission to save the down-home Corncake Inlet Inn from the ubiquitous Greedhead Development Corporation continues.
We began this improbably long association at a club in Chapel Hill in 1985. We sold out the West Bank Downstairs Theatre on 42nd Street, New York’s Theatre Row, in the ‘80’s and the ‘90’s, played a month at the Kennedy Center, filmed it for PBS. It’s been presented at regional theatres up and down the Coast and even once in Saskatchewan.
Our biggest reward has been to partner with not-for-profit organizations like the North Carolina Coastal Federation, the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum, Friends Of Tybee Theatre, and the Nature Conservancy, to raise money and awareness on behalf of the environment and other good causes.
Here’s a link to Bland’s excellent King Mackerel site, and check out the production history. We’re always looking to partner with not-for-profits like those mentioned.
