NEW YORK, NY – The Coastal Cohorts will perform their musical King Mackerel & The Blues Are Running: Songs & Stories of the Carolina Coast at the West Bank Café’s Laurie Beechman Theatre on Friday, May 18th and Saturday, May 19th at 7 p.m.
The shows at the West Bank will feature its co-authors and original performers as the Coastal Cohorts: hit record producer/songwriter Don Dixon, The Red Clay Ramblers pianist Bland Simpson, and Pump Boys & Dinettes principal author/composer/lyricist Jim Wann. Dixon, Simpson & Wann have run King Mackerel across North Carolina, Virginia and everywhere from the lighthouse at Tybee Island, Georgia, to the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse, including a popular summer run at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
When the Coastal Cohorts were last in New York City at the West Bank, the NY Post said:
"Carolina fish tale is quite a catch . . . a pure, salt-watered delight . . . wonderfully evokes a carefree, buddy-buddy world of fish, fishermen and the lovely Carolina coast."
The NY Daily News wrote: "One helluva fish story . . . a fast-moving and thoroughly charming night of down-home banter and country-flavored music. Bullseye of a show!”
And the Village Voice called the show “Great boogie-woogie about ghost hunting, joy riding, fishing, trash-talking and--a North Carolina perennial favorite--shag dancing!”
Tickets for King Mackerel may be purchased online only via OvationTix.
